Elle tient sur ses genoux son avant-dernier né, Louis-Charles habillé en fille, la tête coiffée d'un bonnet et les bras gesticulant, son attitude générale donnant l'impression d'une solide vitalité, ce que confirment les témoignages contemporains. La petite Marie-Thérèse pose affectueusement sa tête sur son épaule droite, tandis que le dauphin entoure d’un bras protecteur le berceau vide couvert d'un crêpe noir, afin de rappeler au public la mort récente de Marie-Sophie-Béatrice. L'armoire servant de serre-bijoux et ornée de fleurs de lys, luit dans la pénombre.</div>
